Chambering Malaysia (modified 0 times) james woo Is the profession in Malaysia one of two branhces of barristers and solicitors or a fused one. Here is Aussie, we have fused profession in Victoria, where you are admitted as barrister and solicitor of supreme court. In New South Wales and other states you are admitted as either but not both. I shall be returning to Malaysia having already served as a solicitor for 4 years i Victoria and then as a barrister in Sydney (NSW) for 2 years. Can anyone tell me what the rules are for me if I chose to enter the profession in Malaysia. My Bahasa is good and I have the added advantage of Bahasa Indonesia as well. I am fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese as well. Any assitance from current practitioners or people relatd to the profession would be welcome. 20 Sep, 2004 19:51:32

RE:Chambering Malaysia (modified 0 times) desert Hello James, You will have to do pupillage in Malaysia before you could get called to the Malaysian Bar and practise as an Advocate and Solicitor (fused). However since you have a number of years as a practising lawyer you may apply for exemption of the full 9 months' of pupillage and perhaps just complete 6. Hope this helps. 14 Oct, 2004 18:15:38
