New MessageRetirement Age (modified 0 times) Suez
What is the retirement age for a private organisation? What is the period of notice given and will the employer need to compensate in monetary, since there is nothing written in the Letter of Offer. Please advise.

There is no law on retirement age. It will depend on your contract of employment. If the contract is silent on retirement age then there is no retirement. You can continue to work so long as you can crawl to your office. If your employer were to retire you then if you are an employee within the meaning of the Employment Act 1955, i.e. generally earning not more than RM1500p.m. you will be entitled to termination benefits in accordance with the Employment (Termination & Lay-off Benefits)Regulations 1980.
If you are not covered by the Employment Act, 1955 and if your employer terminates you when there is no retirement clause you can file a claim for reinstatement under the Industrial Relations Act 1967.Whether you win your case and how much compensation you will get, if you are not reinstated, will depend entirely on the Industrial Court Chairman.
