How long to get the sealed certificate for decree nisi made absolute?

DivorceDivorce (modified 0 times) Vincent
Need help!

After 3 months for decree nisi to be made absolute, my lawyer has filed the application to make the decree nisi absolute on Nov last year.
Again, after another 3 months waiting, the high court still hasn't returned to us with the sealed certificate and I am still legally consider as "married".

I have wait more than half a year since I received the court order for divorce and yet I still can't free myself to become "single" again. I am suspecting the lawyer is not doing his job. Though I have called him many times to check for the status, he just always said that he will do the follow up and sometimes even avoid my calls.

I would like to know if there is any way I can help to speed up the process ? Normally how long it will takes for the court to return me with the sealed certificate ?

Depends where you file the papers. In KL, it can be as fast as 3 days. Everywhere else, it can be as slow as forever. The file may be missing, the documents may have been extracted but gone missing, etc.

You can go to the relevant court registry (Kaunter pendaftaran) and just give the clerk there the case number and the date you attended the hearing. They will check. If the document is not in the file, it means it was never filed. Find your lawyer and scream at him since I think this is incompetence in the worst degree! If it is it may have been extracted but gone missing. All is not lost. Just pay RM6 for file searching, pay for the Decree Nisi Mutlak to be photostated, pay for it to be certified true copy, copy down the name of the clerk who assisted you and tell the clerk you will collect the document YOURSELF and when it will be ready and when it is go back to the same kaunter and hopefully the same clerk and collect the CTC-ed document. CTC is the same as the original so it is ok to give the CTC one to JPN for updating their records.
