 | illegitimate child rights (modified 0 times) | cool | |
| Hi,
I have been living in with my partner for more than 5 years and 2 years ago we had a child. Just few months ago he decided to walk out without supporting us anymore especially the child. Can I legally ask him for child support and is there any rights that my child can have as my child is illegitimate but my partner's name is in the birth cert as father. Please advice.
Thx | |

| It is like building castle in the air. You should not have too high hope on this kind of irresponsible man!
Whether he provides support or not all boil down to his Conscience.
In Theory, Practice, and Logic are totally three different matters. | |

Since the father's name is on the birth cert, you can sue him for child maintenance.
Consult a good lawyer. | |

| You will have to file in the lower courts and I believe the amount to be awarded will be low because the child is illegitimate irrespective whether his name is on the birth cert or not. | |
