New MessageWant to Get Married (modified 0 times) BooHoo
My BF and I has been living together coming to 10 years. Last year I found out that he didn't sign a divorce paper. He has been separated with his wife for 16 years now. They have two children in their 20s. His wife is living with their sons. We would like to get married. I would like to find out how can he apply for a divorce and how much will it cost him. Please advise. Thank you.

Jeffer, thanks for d advise n you know what, forget about it. Come to think of it, it doesn't matter whether my BF and I are legally married. As long as I'm happy being with him and he loves me, that's more important.

hello there.

i think its a good idea to legalise your relationship - you have been together for 10 years. and you're happy. i take it you're planning to continue for at least another 10 years - so that's an investment you're putting into this relationship right?

Your bf may have been separated for more than 16 years - but if he dies (i'm sorry but lawyers are realistic people and we alll have to die someday) - 1/3 of his property will revert to his wife and not you - thereby leaving you unprovided (perhaps) in your old age... and really does he want to leave 1/3 of his property to his wife? obviously if he wrote a will providing for you - then you don't have to worry about this. your choice.

a joint petition for divorce can be signed within 2 weeks (max time) from engaging a lawyer - and he will get the divorce within 6 -8 months from signing. It will cost about RM6000.00.

It's a very painless procedure. papers are drawn up according to both parties wishes and then upon signing submitted to court. both parties will have to attend court once with the lawyer. order will be pronounced. both parties must wait 3 months after date of the order for decree nisi absolute. Then you can marry.
