Average cost of civil litigation

Hi all!

I am really curious about the rate of civil litigation in Malaysia. My dad has made a RM30,000 membership deposit to a golf club company. Unfortunately, during the time of redemption, the golf club did not reimburse. If my dad decides to file a lawsuit against the golf company through a lawyer, what is the average initial payment for initial consultation & filing of lawsuit in Malaysia, and if the case wins what is the percentage of the additional payment to the lawyer??  (including the court fees)?

you might want to consider another approach. it is called mediation. well litigation is the normal legal process being used these days but really, the costs are really very high and most of the time the party using it is kept in the dark. at times we lawyers do have our own agenda. it takes many many years even to be heard as we lawyers being lawyers have our way of extending our time and fees . If i say, there are chances you could solve this case in under rm500, would you believe it? well, that's what mediation is all about. it is about settling issue easily and cheaply. plus when the outcome is arrived at, trust me, it will be what you wanted all along as the settlement in mediation is decided upon by the parties concerned. you can call a mediator at 014-6417833 for some free advice and if it is ok with you then proceed. really, do call. there are other mediation houses too like the ones from the Bar council, FMB etc.
