Also known as the Rajang Port Authority (RPA) in English. Prior to 1961, all ports in Sarawak were administered jointly by Government Agencies, namely Marine Department, Royal Customs and Excise Department and Public Works Department. In order to achieve greater co-ordination of port activities, the Port Authorities Ordinance was enacted in 1961. The Rajang Port Authority came into legal existence on November 1, 1970 but commenced its operation on May 17, 1971. The functions of Rajang Port Authority are to maintain, or provide for the maintenance of, adequate and efficient port services and facilities for all users of the ports; to co-ordinate the activities of the port; to promote the improvement and development of the port; and to execute such works as may be necessary for the performance of duties specified above.

Commonly known as the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak in English. Established on February 1, 1994 under the Natural Resources and Environment Ordinance 1993 (Cap. 84). NREB is tasked with the responsibility of protecting and managing the environment and the conservation of the natural resources of the State based on the principles of sustainable development. The main functions of NREB are to determine and take necessary measures to stop the pollution of waters in the rivers or water catchments areas; to control and prohibit the destruction of vegetation for the protection of natural resources, rivers and other environmental elements; to enforce the relevant rules; and to educate the public regarding the protection of the environment. Commonly known as the Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) in English. In October 1989, the Sarawak State Government commissioned DHV Consultants to carry out a feasibility study on coastal and riverine transportation in Sarawak. Subsequently, the Sarawak Rivers Ordinance, 1993 was passed by the State Legislative Assembly in May 1993 and came into effect in October 1993. By virtue of this Ordinance, the Sarawak Rivers Boards was established in October 1993. The main functions of SRB are to plan and make recommendations to the State Government for the development and improvement of the riverine transport system in the State; to control and regulate traffic by water in ports and harbours or on rivers & in the foreshores within the limits of Sarawak; to take necessary measures to keep the river or port clean; to prevent and reduce the rate of erosion of the banks of rivers and for the protection and restoration.
