Petaling Jaya was managed by Kuala Lumpur District Officer and Petaling Jaya Municipal Board until the end of 1954. The power to administer Petaling Jaya was then given to Petalaing Jaya Town Authority. On January 1, 1964, Petaling Jaya Municipal Board (Lembaga Bandaran Petaling Jaya) was established to administer Petaling Jaya. The Municipal Board was upgraded to Majlis Perbandaran Petaling Jaya-MPPJ (PJ Municpal Council) on January 1, 1977. On June 20, 2006, Petaling Jaya was granted city status. Thus MPPJ was upgraded and known as the Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ). SS area (numbered section at Sg. Way/Subang district), Subang Jaya, Section 52 (New Town) has been united to become a municipal under MBPJ. Also known as the Shah Alam City Council (SACC) in English. Established on December 7, 1978 as Majlis Perbandaran Shah Alam-MPSA (Shah Alam Municipal Council) in collaboration with the proclaimation of Shah Alam as the state capital of Selangor Darul Ehsan. Shah Alam, once a palm oil estate known as Sungai Renggam, consists of Petaling and part of Klang. Shah Alam was declared a city (7th city in Malaysia) on October 10, 2000 and MPSA was renamed Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA). Services provided by MBSA include council and urban services; physical development planning; development of social, sports, culture and humanities; licensing facilities; and law enforcement.
