Householders Covers

Section IIA - Loss or Damage to Contents

The Householders insurance is specially designed to cover the contents of your home against loss or damage caused by certain specified insured perils.

The contents are insured only whilst in your home i.e. at the address mentioned in the policy. This policy also provides a limited cover for Temporary Removal.

Householders insurance can be taken up either by : The policy describes contents as "Household Goods and Personal Effects of every description". This means that everything in your home is insured without having to identify each and every item, provided the sum insured is adequate.

You need to make an inventory of everything in your house so that you can put a value to each item according to the basis of insurance you have chosen.

Although every item in your home is covered, there are certain policy restrictions applicable to specific items, such as jewelry, expensive items and money.

Alternatively, you may want to insure only certain selected items in your home. But if you do this, there is a danger that you may overlook to insure a few important items. Apparently, in Malaysia this method is the more popular method to insure contents.
