Bankruptcy - No Longer A Malaysian

Bankruptcy - No Longer A MalaysianBankruptcy - No Longer A Malaysian (modified 0 times) Jane1963
A good friend of mine had given up his Malaysian citizenship & has become Singaporean. But he was declared bankrupt in 2006 after he has given up his citizenship. Few months back, I helped him to check JIM & he was confirmed declared bankrupt. Now he wanted to travel back to Malaysia & asked for my help.

I even explained to him the procedure to get the letter from JIM as my spouse is a bankrupt. But he wants to pay monthly like all 'our brothers & sisters' in this forum. He don't mind the hassle.

My doubt is whether his case will be treated the same like us. Anyone has experience in this type of case?

Hi Jane,

I am trying to follow your friend's footstep, migrate and give up my M'sian citizenship as soon as I get a new passport from my new host country, my question for your friend is, did he get his Singaporean citizenship AFTER or BEFORE he was declared a bankrupt in M'sia?

What difference does it make? Before and after? How to solve the problem of going back to Malaysia?

Well, Mr same problem, to you, it makes no difference, to me, it is important, I need to know if it is BEFORE or AFTER for my own reasons, obviously. I hope you get caught trying to leave M'sia with your SG passport and get stuck there forever and ever!

How mean of you. Instead of trying to help, you say such things. I ask out of curiosity not trying to be funny. Thank you

Hey, same problem, me, mean?

Why should anyone be nice to a selfish little man, woman or SheMale (take your pick) like you?

First of all, you should not even 'talk' to me, that is, passed a negative comment about my simple, one-answer question.

I STILL hope you get caught trying to leave M'sia with your SG passport and get stuck there forever and ever, no, delete that, make that... till you rot in HELL!!!

Just to share this info.

Went to JIM office. OA mentioned even though my friend is already a Singaporean and if he wants to travel to M'sia, he will be stopped at Immigration. My friend will have to do the same procedure like any Malaysian who wanted to work overseas.

Penumpang... unless u are 100% sure that u will never step back in M'sia soil again, then go ahead to get another country citizenship.

Suggestion: Why not ask at the High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore first before coming back to M'sia, I seriously doubt the people at the High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore would arrest your friend and extradite him/her to M'sia, especially since being a bankrupt is not a crime or an offense.

ccss,

I meant if my friend would only be stopped at M'sia immigration when he wants to leave. The OA mentioned something about Commonwealth Countries which he meant M'sia & S'pore had signed some sort of agreement. No matter he already a Singaporean but if he have court/bankruptcy cases, he/she will have to report to M'sia JIM before he is allowed to leave M'sia.

Hi Jane,

If that is true, that is, an ex-M'sian using a foreign passport will be detected & stopped based on that person's name by M'sian's immigration computer, their computer system is indeed very powerful, thanks for the heads up.

Hi ccss,

Have you tried asking at a High Commission of Malaysia (outside M'sia of course) if an
ex-Malaysian with a foreign passport would be stopped from leaving M'sia if he/she is a bankrupt in M'sia?

All of you have some points of argument and all are right in Theory.

Jane's friend had renounced his Malaysian Citizenship and became a Singaporean BEFORE he was declared Bankrupt.

He is NOT a Bankrupt Singaporean, but a Normal Singaporean.

He was FORCED to accept that he became a Bankrupt Malaysian. We should say a PAST or EX-Malaysian.

If he travels with his Singaporean Passport as a Singaporean, The Immigration merely see him as a Singaporean Tourist.

He is NOT a WANTED CRIMINAL using Malaysian Passport to travel.

Malaysian Immigration Officials only check and STOP Malaysian Bankrupt Travellers using Malaysian Passport, from getting out of the Country.

The Malaysian Immigration Department has NO OBLIGATION to arrest him for some OTHER Department's Duty.

I just checked with a lawyer today who used to work at JIM, he told that the M'sian immigration department uses M'sian I/C numbers to check the status of M'sians coning/leaving M'sia. I hope this puts ex-M'sians now holding foreign passports at ease about travelling to M'sia.

Hi 1818 ,

Sry for late reply. Regards just use IC check whether the person is bankrupt think is not valid . Think use malaysia passport also able to check the status . Because when my mum traveling to sg , sometimes the immigration officer will ask her to show the letter from JIM inorder to let her go .

So government did update the info into the system , is just matter of slow and fast only ...
